Custom Diffused Polycarbonate LED Lightbox | CNC Fabrication

A custom LED lightbox with CNC-cut diffusing polycarbonate faces, an open mounting side, a PVC foam board base, and internally arranged LED modules.

This diffusing polycarbonate LED lightbox was made with polycarbonate and PVC foam board using CNC machining and an internal LED layout. The mounting side remains open so the box can be screw-fastened to a separate LED base. It is used as an illuminated sign or display element for retail and event spaces.

CNC-Cut Polycarbonate Box and Internal LED Base

The main photograph shows a square diffusing polycarbonate lightbox illuminated across the front, side, and top faces, with colored graphics applied. The exterior faces were CNC-cut from diffusing polycarbonate. The mounting side was left open and fastened by screws to a PVC foam board or galvanized steel base, with LED modules arranged inside the base. Square and rounded forms, graphic placement, and base construction can be varied for the intended space. The materials shown in this project are polycarbonate and PVC foam board, and the main processes are CNC machining and LED placement.

LED Module Layout and Screw-Fastened Box Construction

The photograph shows the completed square lightbox beside its separate base panel. LED modules were arranged in rows on the base and connected with wiring. This panel attaches to the open mounting side of the lightbox.

Illuminated Side Faces on a Square Polycarbonate Box

With the LEDs switched on, both the front graphic and the side faces of the square lightbox appear bright. Unlike a metal channel structure that illuminates a limited face, this diffusing polycarbonate box uses both the front and sides as illuminated surfaces.

Cut-Vinyl Graphics on a Diffusing Polycarbonate Box

Black letters and a red shape were cut from film and applied to the front of a white diffusing polycarbonate box. The white surface continues across the top and side edges, while the front graphics sit over the illuminated face.

Rounded Diffusing Polycarbonate Lightbox Forms

These white diffusing polycarbonate lightboxes were made in circular and oval-like forms. In addition to square boxes, the outline of the front and the shape of the side wall can be changed to create other lightbox forms.
